Marathon
How unlike me to miss so many days in a row this week. It’s been a more than a little hectic around here so there really wasn’t anything in the can and ready to post, so instead I decided to play catch-up with everything in my inbox and check out what a few artsits have been up to as of late.
One of those artists was Young Liars, who you might remember as that band with the track “Colours” that I wrote about/fell in love with just over a month ago. Since then, the Vancouver outfit has re-released their debut EP, Homesick Future, with the help of some label love from Nettwerk Records. It’s not hard to understand why the label was eager to snatch these guys up: Homesick Future is a small but potent collection of upbeat shakers, leaning heavily on pulsing keyboards and new-new wave rhythms.
“Marathon” and the aforementioned ”Colours” probably best encapsulate the nature of the band, both punctuated with four-on-the-floor beats that are as dance floor friendly as they are radio-ready. Big, electric hooks shine through the neon-hued synthesizers that cascade and tessellate in dazzling patterns, weaving in and out of the tightly coiled rhythms that springboard the band well into the stratosphere each time they hit a chorus.
If you needed any more to go on, then check out the band’s awesome lyric video for “Colours,” which twists their scoundscapes into some wild visual shapes. Better still, have a listen to highlight track “Marathon” after the jump.
