Year In Review #6: An Album By Korallreven

It’s strange to think that although Korallreven first entered the scene when they dropped their “Loved-Up” single back in 2009, An Album By Korallreven is the duo’s actual first full-fledged long player. Not just strange in the sense that Korallreven have managed to make the waves that they have despite such a scant amount of released material, but in that the record ebbs and flows like the work of a band much farther into their career. It rolls and crests organically, breathing in traditional indie pop sentiments, and exhaling them in a wash of hypnotic, swirling tones painted in pastel.

Like Zonoscope, An Album By Korallreven works best at album-length. It’s massive scope–both musically and emotionally–unfolds in layers, track over track. It invites you to drown yourself in the atmosphere, giving yourself up to the whirl of lush keys, sprightly hand claps, and hazy guitar lines.
